Building Healthy Communities: Long Beach (BHC Long Beach) is excited to announce the election of eleven new members to serve on the Steering Committee for the 2013-2015 term! Members of the Steering Committee are tasked with: supporting the effective implementation of the BHC Long Beach Community Action Plan and that the plan is accountable to community constituencies as well as updated on a regular basis.
Steering Committee member serve two-year terms and play an integral role in guiding the work of BHC Long Beach. Members can serve in one of three capacities: as an Adult Community Representative, a Youth Community Representative or a Community Organization Representative, with seven seats available for each group. During the elections, members are voted in by their peers, youth by youth, adults by adults and community organizations by their colleagues and then confirmed by the community. This system of elections, which emphasizes diversity of age, gender, race, geography, ability, etc., symbolizes the accountability that our Steering Committee members hold to their peer groups, and do the larger community.
With a recently completed update to the Community Action Plan and newly elected Steering Committee members, BHC Long Beach is ready for the next 7 years of this 10-year initiative to make Health Happen Here!
