Parents celebrate inaugural school year of organizing

On July 20th, BHC’s Parent Organizing Workgroup (POW) celebrated the close of its parent committee’s inaugural school year. Parents were recognized for their work together to identify their vision and priorities for change within the school system. Participants were selected by each of POW’s six organizational members and had the opportunity to attend meetings to share their experiences and learn more about their schools and the district, co-organize and attend the Voices and Visions Town Hall in March, and share their perspectives by speaking at the school board. BHC is very proud of all the parent leaders and are excited for next year!

POW member organizations include: Community with Power for Change, Downtown Associated Youth Services, Long Beach, Greater Long Beach Interfaith Community Organization, Latinos in Action, Success in Challenges, and United Cambodian Community.


El 20 de junio, el grupo de trabajo de organizar a los padres (POW) celebró el cierre de su Comité de padres del año escolar inaugural. Los padres fueron reconocidos por su trabajo para identificar su visión y prioridades para cambios en el Sistema escolar. Los participantes fueron seleccionados por miembros de cada uno de los seis POWs y tuvieron la oportunidad de asistir a reuniones para compartir sus experiencias y aprender más acerca de su escuelas y el distrito, coorganizar y atender el Voices and Visions Town Hall en marzo, y compartir sus perspectivas al hablar en el concejo escolar. ¡BHC está muy orgulloso por todos los padres líderes y emocionado por el próximo año!
