About the Chefs and what each of them will be making:
Gloria Colazo teaches how to create healthy and flavorful vegetarian meals to help prevent or control diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. She believes that health is an individual’s treasure. As a stroke survivor she’s realized that lifestyle is important. Discipline and determination are a must. Gloria is a member of the LB Time Exchange and serves as a member of the Learning Committee.

Soraya Sobreidad – The Queen of Healthy Cooking, is a Latina chef and host of Soraya Sobreidad’s “FIERCE” Cooking Show. Noted by The New York Times and The Daily News, Soraya has created a sensation with her positive life attitude and fabulous and fun take on healthy Latin cooking. A former contestant on the Food Network show Chopped, Soraya spins out her brand of low fat, high fiber, and dairy-/sugar-/ and gluten-free variations on traditional Puerto Rican recipes as the host of her own hit series, Soraya Sobreidad’s “FIERCE” Cooking Show! http://sorayasobreidad.com/
Dish: Soraya’s Vegetarian Gluten Free Pastelon: Recipe will consist of ripe yellow plantains, a vegan soy based ” beef ” mixture, sauce, spices and shredded soy cheese. Very low sugar. lower fat, no animal meat, no food coloring, no msg, no gluten.
Chef Amateco Wilbert Martinez, originally from El Salvador. A young man with a tenacity that has made him strive to achieve his goals thanks to his effort, desire and determination towards his passion, the kitchen. Influenced by his father, also a cook, Wilbert began his career washing dishes in New York. After his regular work hours he watched the cooks until the opportunity came. One day one of the cooks was absent and so the head Chef called Wilbert and put him to the test. That was his last day as a dishwasher and the beginning of his path towards becoming El Chef Amateco.
Dish: “Relleno Cielo y Mar” (Sky and Sea Filling) Roasted chicken breast wrapped in a banana leaf in an orange sauce with mushrooms and stuffed with asparagus and shrimp.
During this 2 hour class all 3 chefs will share about their stories and teach you how to prepare their favorite dishes. The class instruction will start at 6pm and will be followed by having dinner and sharing the meal together. During the end of the meal, there will be a Q&A about the LB Time Exchange and a chance for everyone to share and learn about each other’s’ skills, offers and requests. Workshop is free and open to the public, RSVP required. For members, cost of the workshop is 2 time credits.
We are looking for volunteers to help chop vegetables before the cooking class from 4-6pm. If you would like to help, please bring your own cutting board and knife as these will not be provided.
